How to turn an old school school into a digital workspace

In 2017, I was in an elementary school that was just about ready to go digital. 

We were having a lot of fun, and I was feeling really creative. 

As a teacher, I wanted to bring in ideas and see how the students would react to them. 

I thought, ‘OK, I’m going to make some kids’ rooms and I’m gonna make them into interactive art projects and I hope they can get excited about it.’ 

The next day, my students came to me and said, ‘Wow, we love it!’ 

The whole time, I had my fingers crossed, but they didn’t, and so I said, “That’s OK, we’ll just go to lunch.” 

My kids didn’t know what to think about that, so I didn’t tell them about the project. 

After lunch, they were like, ‘I don’t like that.

It’s too scary.'” 

So I went home and I started playing with it, and it’s not the way I envisioned it, but I still felt inspired. 

And it’s still one of my favorite things to do, I have to admit. 

It’s the idea that we’re building a digital classroom for our students. 

You can see it in their faces when they go to class, or when they’re reading their books, or just seeing what their work is. 

But it’s also in the way they interact with the other kids, and when they see it on TV or in a movie or whatever, it’s like they’re part of the interactive experience. 

That’s where I’m really inspired by it, because that’s where the kids are. 

When I’m in an environment that’s going to be online, and we have a huge digital classroom, it really creates a new dynamic for kids. 

The classroom is going to feel like a movie, and then you’re sitting there in a classroom that is so big. 

In that way, the interactive art space is a digital experience that the kids have a very big relationship with, because they’re in it. 

There’s a lot more interaction there. 

This is a new way of working, it can be very immersive. 

They’ll come up to you, and they’ll say, ‘Can you make a picture?’ 

It can be a book, a book cover, and things like that, and you can see all the colors and shapes and things, but it’s the visual interactions that are the most engaging. 

Sometimes, a little bit of the classroom is just the way the teacher talks to you. 

Maybe he’s going through a story or a problem or something, and he’s trying to convey to you what it is to be a teacher. 

If he’s asking a question, you’re not going to understand it if you’re watching a video. 

Some of the teachers have said, I wish I had that kind of teacher-student interaction. 

My daughter, she really enjoys it, she likes it, you know? 

I think she would love it.

That’s why I like it.

And then you have a lot that’s fun and creative and interactive. 

Because you’re teaching with them in the real world, so there’s a sense of connection, and that’s why we love teaching in our school. 

These teachers are so passionate about their students.

They have such a love for their students that it’s hard to explain that. 

For them to do that in a digital environment, you have to really get out of your comfort zone. 

A lot of schools don’t have that.

So, I think this has been a great learning experience for me. 

Here are some of my favorites, and some of the others I’m thinking about doing: When we went to our library to get some books, we went through the book store, but we also went through our office. 

One of my teachers said, they should be reading this book, because I think they have a whole section about this book. 

He was very enthusiastic, and the kids loved it. 

 When we go to school, we’re in a room. 

So, we’ve got desks, chairs, a big TV, a projector. 

Then there’s an office, and there’s this little room that you’re in, where they’re going to teach you a lesson. 

(I’m going in to say, I like the art room, it feels like a little space, a small space.) 

It looks like a classroom. 

Now, you see the screens that they’re doing their lesson.

So it’s a really beautiful room. 

 You have to create the visuals, but you have this digital space in which to be creative. 

 It’s like, when you’re talking to them, they are able to hear what you’re saying. 

‘I love this.’
